Frequently Asked Questions

How can I hire the hall for a children’s party?
To check availability and make a provisional booking, please use the Contact Form on the CONTACT US page of this website to get in touch with the Bookings Manager.  A booking will be confirmed once the hire fee and damage deposit have been received, and the hirer has completed and returned the Centre’s hire agreement form.

How many people are allowed in the large hall at any one time?
Up to 120 people can comfortably be accommodated in the hall.

Can I cancel my hire?
Yes you can; although you may incur a charge depending on how far in advance you make your cancellation. Check the Community Centre's Terms and Conditions for more details.  These can be accessed on the HIRE page of this website

Is there a stage in the Community Centre?
Not currently; although the hall is large enough to accommodate a stage.  We suggest that you contact [email protected] who may be able to offer advice.

What are the parking facilities?
There is a public car park directly outside the Community Centre, which is operated by Abbots Langley Parish Council.  Alternatively there is a large public car park in the centre of the village, just a few minutes’ walk from the  Centre.

Is the hall available for whole-day hire?
There are a number of regular hirers who run clubs and classes in the Community Centre for a portion of each day.  However, speak to the Bookings Manager, as sometimes the timetable changes.

Is there a sound system in the hall?
Yes, there is a sound system in the hall, the use of which is included in the cost of hire.  To access the system, wall plates are installed in the hall into which your own electronic device can be plugged, using a connecting cable.  The Centre holds a joint licence from the Performing Rights Society (PRS) for Music and Phonographic Performance Limited (PPL). This means that most copyrighted sound recordings can be played and copyrighted music can be performed at the Community Centre.

What provision is there for disability access?
There is a parking facility in the adjacent car park which is a flat journey across tarmac to the hall door.  There are no steps into the Community Centre; the door is at ground level.  A spacious self-contained toilet with adapted toilet and washing facilities and an emergency alarm are provided.  There are no steps within the Centre; the hall is all on one level.

Why is alcohol prohibited in the building?
As a requirement set by our leaseholders, Abbots Langley Parish Council, the sale and consumption of alcohol at the Community Centre is not allowed.

What is the hall hire charge?
We operate a sliding scale of charges for different kinds of hire.  A guide to social and event hire costs is shown on the HIRE page of this website.  Please call the Bookings Manager for advice on rates for fundraising events and other types of hire, such as for a regular club or class.

Does the Community Centre have an entertainment licence?
The Community Centre does not hold an entertainment licence.  Events held at the Centre that involve entertainment such as music or dancing, or an indoor sport, may need to submit a Temporary Event Notice (TEN) to Three Rivers District Council.  You must contact the Council to check what is required.

Are bouncy castles allowed inside the large hall and what is the maximum height they can be?
Bouncy castles are allowed, provided they are hired from a reputable and fully insured company, and provided they are properly and set up, operated and supervised, either by the company's own staff or by a responsible adult.  Please see the Centre's terms and conditions of hire shown on the HIRE page of this website for further information.  The maximum possible height of the equipment is 2.4m (8ft).
