The Monday Club was first formed in 1988 when parents who have children with learning disabilities set up a meeting with social services to discuss what they most needed to enhance their way of life and encourage them to become more involved with the community. It was decided that a club should be formed where anyone with learning disabilities could meet up locally once a week and enjoy a social meeting place.
Abbots Langley Community Centre was voted the best venue to hold the club as it had a large hall with lockup space for any equipment that we would accumulate! There being an adjacent car park is an added bonus, plus there is access for people using wheelchairs.
The Club is a registered charity and has its own constitution stating what the main aims are for its members; we have a full Management Committee which holds meetings every two months, and an AGM each year.
We are now in our 25th year and still going strong! The Club is held on a Monday evening 7.00pm to 9.00pm, each member pays £1.00 subscription per visit, we also run a coffee bar, discos are run on a regular basis, arts and crafts are readily at hand, table tennis and snooker games are available, each member’s birthday is celebrated with a present and card! Our members also enjoy the nights out bowling and this is free of charge to them, we are very fortunate to have 16 young helpers from Parmiter's School and they are a fantastic addition to our team of helpers. A Christmas Party is held each year and presents are given to each member, we also have the occasional fish and chip supper night.
